The Elegance of Black and White

The Depth of Vision

As most of you know that have followed me over the years, know that I have a passion for photographs when they are in Black and White. There is just something about them that keep my eye on the photo and look for all the details. Sure, color can do wonders for so many photos, but for me it is the Black and White that has an Elegance that can’t be explained. It almost gives the photo a sense of pride and belonging.

Mirror Lake

I traveled with my daughter a few months ago to Yosemite, California and I came across this shot of a stream that flowed down from Mirror Lake. I have been experimenting with my ND Filter and came to the scene of this stream flowing. I thought it would be great to capture this moment in Black and White. The photo almost looks like mountains of sand in the Sahara Desert.

Conclusion

It was one of my favorites that I caught over that weekend. I wanted to share it with you all. I hope you all enjoyed it.

The Long Exposure

I took this photo of a creek that flows into Bass Lake, CA, while I was traveling with the Yearbook class. We drove up to this side area and hiked down to the river. We found this really amazing location to photograph some waterfalls. With so much snow melting up there it makes so much more water flowing into all of these rivers.
I found this opportunity to mess with my ND filter. I hadn’t had time to mess with it too much and I really wanted to experiment with it. I should have brought my tripod because the shot is a little blurry. I think I left the aperture open for about 2 seconds.

Conclusion

Just like everything else, I plan to play with the ND filter some more so that I can get a better grip on it and share more shots with you. If you have any feedback or advice about how to use the ND filter please do so. I would love to hear about some other people’s experience with ND.

Yosemite – El Capitan

El Capitan

Yosemite’s El Capitan

If you have ever been to Yosemite, then you are familiar with El Capitan. It is a very large mountain that sits in the middle of the park and is a remarkable site to see. It attracts thousands and thousands a year so that people can climb it and see its amazing view.

Rain Makes For Amazing Waterfalls

The recent rains has revived some amazing waterfalls that haven’t been seen in a very long time. Not to mention the amount of water in the rivers. If you get a chance to go up and visit the park, please be sure to be careful around the water, as we have already had a few incidents where people have drowned.

Conclusion

It has been a while since I have been up to Yosemite, but I was offered an opportunity to go with my daughter and her class. It was a great time to see all the kids working to get great shots. I can’t wait to see some of their work. I will continue to post some of my photos online, either on the site or somewhere on social media. Be sure to stay up to date by subscribing to all of my posts.

Yosemite

If you have ever been to Yosemite, you know that the park has a lot to offer. Especially, if you are a photographer. From the waterfalls and the green trees and the beautiful blue sky.

Glacier Point

I took this shot a few years ago when some family and I went up to camp at Yosemite. I had heard of the view from the top of Glacier Point but had never experienced it until the day I shot this. From the top you can see Half Dome over on the left and just below you can see Vernal Falls and the Merced Falls above that.

Conclusion

If you have time to stay in Yosemite and see all of the park’s beauty, I insist you camp or stay at a hotel nearby so that you can experience so much more of the park.
